The Morning Light Collection

My heels drag as they hit the path. The resistance is strong at this hour. And the night was long.

As I round the bend, I sense the dark beginning to lift. The thrush wakes first and starts her morning song.

Then the string section in the grass stretch their legs and begin. The doves and the lark layer in their melodies next.

Creating a polyphonic morning. Each praising their maker.

Together they reverberate; resounding, surrounding.

My feet pick up pace. Thumping down the path in rhythm to the underbrush.

I near the river's edge. Drawn in by the sound of water tumbling between rocks. And I watch as the deer make their way for a morning drink.

“Valley Song” 24x30” oil on canvas

The sun crests over the line of trees. I stop and watch as I hold my breath.

The veil between heaven and earth feels thin at this moment.

The anxieties of night lift in prayer just as the fog rises and dissipates in the light.

And I wait here.  For the morning to bring me word.

I watch as dew collects along each blade of the wild plumes and marvel as they become strands of beads.

Even the grass is clothed.

“Illumine” 18x24” oil on canvas

I feel the sun on my face as I close my eyes and absorb it’s warmth. My mind is stilled.

And I become confident of this…

That surely again today, goodness and mercy will follow me.

So I will sing my morning song too. And I keep moving toward the light.
